Now that we are fully transitioned to IRBNet, we are in the process of fine tuning our procedures to maximize efficiency. Our current goal is a two-week response timeline. There are now three new guidance documents posted on the IRBNet library site (FORMS AND TEMPLATES):

Guidance for using IRBNet
Guidance for registering with the CITI program
Guidance for navigating the process of Barry’s IRB.

These guidance documents have been updated in order to ensure consistency with the 2019 federal guidelines. Please make sure you are working with the most current version of the guidance. If you are not yet registered on IRBNet, you can access the guidance by logging on to irbnet.org and clicking the NEW USER REGISTRATION link at the upper right. As of January 1, 2020, completion of two CITI courses is required. Requirements for Ethics training requires certification of successful completion of a Basic Course in either Social/Behavioral or Biomedical research. The second course that is now required is the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) course in either Social/Behavioral or Biomedical research. This course is much shorter than the Basic Course and assures compliance with Federal guidelines. Download the CITI guidance for information on how to register on CITI and how to ADD A COURSE, for those of you who have already completed the Basic Course.
All forms have been updated and can be downloaded from the IRBNet library (FORMS & TEMPLATES). For the next couple of months we will accept applications using either the old or new forms. Starting with March submissions, only protocols submitted on the updated form will be accepted. It is recommended that you always download the most current forms before beginning a new submission in order to ensure the smoothest review.

Note that the protocol form has been completely redesigned to merge the protocol form with the reviewer worksheet. Our goal is to begin to receive protocols that are more closely aligned with reviewer expectations so that we will be able to approve more protocols without requiring modifications. The new form and review procedures have been piloted and reviewers have received professional development on reviewing with the new forms. Of course, we welcome feedback.
As we transition to the new forms, we will also be accepting only electronic signatures. Student submissions must have the electronic signatures of both the student investigator and the faculty sponsor.

Finally, beginning in March we will require that CITI certificates must be associated with your USER PROFILE and then linked to specific protocols, as described in the IRBnet guidance document.
